Angolan government bans import and sale of syrups made in India

The Angolan Ministry of Health banned the import and sale of four batches of syrups manufactured by India’s Maiden Pharmaceuticals Limited, due to the presence of contaminating substances.
In a statement, the Regulatory Agency for Medicines and Health Technologies warns of the existence of batches of products in low quality oral solution, containing high amounts of contaminating substances, namely diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol.
It therefore ordered the withdrawal from the market and the ban on the use by the National Health System of four batches of Promethazine Oral Solution BP(ML21-202), Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup (ML21-199), Makoff Baby Cough Syrup (ML21) -203) and Magrip NCold Syrup (ML21-198).
It also appeals to users who have these products in their possession to suspend the medication and contact their doctor or pharmacist.
“All other batches of identified products must remain in quarantine until further guidance,” the note adds.
