The Angolan Criminal Investigation Service (SIC), in Luanda, acknowledged on Tuesday that a 33-year-old Angolan teacher, who has been indicted for double murder, rape and asphyxiation, could be a serial killer and continues to investigate the case.
The teacher was arrested in January, after being accused of the murder of a young girl in November 2021, who he groomed through social media, following a denunciation from family members.
According to SIC, the suspect’s ‘modus operandi’ aroused the attention of relatives of another young woman, who disappeared in August 2021, with the teacher also being suspected as the author of this crime, following police investigations.
“After hard work, it was ascertained that another 19-year-old girl had been buried in the same hole, where this young woman was found. The hole was about one and a half metres deep. The bones were collected on 15 March 2022,” said Fernando Carvalho, head of the SIC/Luanda Institutional Communication and Press Department.
Both victims were buried in the backyard of a school in Luanda.
Carvalho admitted that he was dealing with “a serial killer”: “We can consider this to be the case as they are heinous and continuous crimes,” he said.
“The first victim was killed on 5 August 2021 and the second victim on 17 November 2021. Both girls were reported missing by their families and then buried in the same educational institution after sudden and sadistic acts, tied up, raped and asphyxiated,” he said.
SIC staff are today re-enacting the case, on-site, “to convey once again to the population and young people about the care to be taken with meetings that are arranged on social media”.
“We continue to work on this issue, the process is not closed and is moving on to the investigation phase”, Fernando Carvalho said.
