Angola’s national airline, TAAG Linhas Aéreas de Angola, will reinforce its connection to Nigeria from 8 January 2024, with daily flights between Luanda and Lagos, the company announced on Wednesday.
The aim, according to a TAAG news release, is to increase availability and mobility options for its passengers and customers.
The statement emphasises that Nigeria is one of Africa’s largest economies and its largest city, Lagos, one of TAAG’s main regional destinations, with growing indicators of market demand, especially from passengers in the corporate segment.
According to TAAG, the Luanda-Lagos route currently has five flights a week, plied on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays by a Boeing 737-700 aircraft, with capacity to carry 120 passengers, 102 in economy class and 12 in business class.
The airline emphasises in its statement that this is a change that will have a positive impact in terms of fostering trade and mobility between Angola and Nigeria, as well as positioning Luanda as a hub for other destinations operated by TAAG.
“It is important to remember that TAAG has been increasing connectivity on regional routes, having recently increased flight frequencies to the island of Sao Tome (Sao Tome and Principe), Windhoek (Namibia), Ponta Negra (Republic of Congo) and Maputo (Mozambique),” the statement adds.
In this way, it stresses, TAAG is signalling its commitment “to continue providing ever greater connectivity and customer convenience services, positioning Angola as a preferred destination or hub for regional and intercontinental connections”.
