Angolan airline TAAG has ended its agreement with Portugal’s Hi Fly,which had been signed in 2022 to reinforce operations on the Luanda-Lisbon route with an Airbus A330.
The information, to which Lusa had access on Tuesday, was announced by the chief executive of the Angolan carrier, Nelson Rodrigues, during the inauguration of an agency on Friday.
“TAAG restarted its DT 652 flight from Luanda at 12.30 p.m., ending the service provided by Hi Fly. Currently only TAAG will operate the flights to Lisbon, either the DT 652 or the DT 650 which departs at 23:50.
The agreement with the Portuguese private company, signed in June 2022, provided for the lease of an aircraft to Hi Fly on a wetlease basis, with Hi Fly providing the aircraft with a full crew, maintenance and insurance, and TAAG compensating it for the hours the aircraft was in operation.
The decision was justified, at the time, by the maintenance work being carried out on TAAG’s international fleet, namely the Boeing 777-300ER, allowing it to continue operating on a preferential route with a high volume of traffic (Luanda-Lisbon-Luanda).
Hi Fly is a private airline specialising in chartering commercial aircraft with crew, maintenance and insurance included.
