The ruling MPLA party last Monday suffered a restructuration in its secretariat, with the entrance in this organ of new members.
The MPLA Central Committee, gathered last Monday in Luanda, elected Carlos Maria da Silva Feijó as the Politburo secretary for State Reform, Public Administration and Local Government, while Ernesto Norberto Garcia is the new secretary for Information and Propaganda.
According to the final communiqué of the MPLA Politburo, in sequence of the second extraordinary session of the party’s Central Committee, Diógenes do Espírito Santo Oliveira was chosen to be secretary for Economic Policies, Mário António de Sequeira e Carvalho is the secretary for Social Policies and Bento Joaquim Sebastião Francisco Bento is the secretary for Policies on Cadres.
The new secretary for Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland is Pedro de Morais Neto.
The Central Committee also made changes to the MPLA’s auxiliary central organs, namely the offices of the party’s organs, eleven departments and five other offices (such as the office for co-ordination of studies and analysis, office for technical matters and documents and the office for historical research).
Another important resolution of the gathering was the election to the party’s Politburo of Diógenes do Espírito Santo Oliveira, Ernesto Manuel Norberto Garcia, Maria Isabel Malunga Mutunda, Pedro de Morais Neto and Yolanda Brígida Domingos de Sousa.
In the process, Ana Paula Inês Ndala Fernando was appointed to be the co-ordinator of the Commission for Discipline and Auditing of the party’s Central Committee.
In the ambit of the celebrations of the 61st founding anniversary of the MPLA, the party’s Central Committee manifested its satisfaction at the successes of the Angolan people in all domains of the country’s life and appealed for the unity of the party militants in defence of the organisation’s ideals and values connected to democracy, justice and social progress.
The Central Committee also encouraged the Angolan Executive, led by João Lourenço (the party’s vice president), to continue implementing and with some speed the Interim Plan that is aimed at tackling in short term certain socioeconomic issues, with a view to achieving macroeconomic stability, the re-launch of the economy and mitigation of the most pressing social problems.
On the other hand, the Central Committee strongly condemned the appearance of slavery acts in the African continent, having exhorted African leaders to unite around the fight against crimes that deeply affect humanity.
In the ambit of the commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, marked on 10 December, the Central Committe reiterated the party’s commitment to continue contributing to the defence of the citizens’ fundamental rights and the dignity of the human person.
Finally, considering the nearing of the yearend period, the MPLA Central Committee wishes a Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all of its militants, sympathisers and friends, as well as to all the Angolan people.
