Angola and Spain signed three memoranda of understanding in the areas of diplomacy, sport and industry, in Luanda on Tuesday as part of the two-day official visit that the kings of Spain began today in Luanda.
According to a statement from Angola’s foreign ministry, the first legal instrument, a memorandum of understanding in the area of sport, aims to cover cooperation in 10 areas, ranging from the preparation of athletes and coaches to support programmes and promotion of sports for the disabled, institutional cooperation, sports medicine and the fight against doping, harassment and discrimination in sport and organisation of sporting events.
A second memorandum, between the “Venâncio de Moura” Diplomatic Academy of Angola’s foreign ministry, and Spain’s Diplomatic School of the foreign ministry, European union and cooperation, includes cooperation in education and diplomatic and consular training, and also cooperation in training specialists in foreign policy, international relations, international law and international economic relations, as well as other related matters.
Finally, the two countries signed a memorandum of understanding between the Angolan ministry of industry and trade and the Spanish ministry of industry, trade and tourism on cooperation in industry.
This legal instrument provides, specifically for “sharing policies, technologies and research related to industry to strengthen and develop digital solutions for the industrial sector,” and “exploring new opportunities for industrial cooperation, by sharing information about industrial segments with potential for cooperation.
This third memorandum also aims to “identify sectors with high diversification potential for smart manufacturing that can be mutually beneficial” and “participation and collaboration in the organisation of industry-related congresses, conferences and events”.
On the first day of their official visit, the king and queen of Spain met with Angola’s president, João Lourenço.
Felipe VI and Letizia arrived on Monday in Luanda. Angola was the country chosen by the two monarchs for their first visit to sub-Saharan Africa.
On Wednesday, the Spanish king and the Angolan president will speak at the Business Forum and interact with businesspeople from both countries.
Before returning Wednesday afternoon to Madrid, the Spanish king and queen are due to visit the National Assembly and the Museum of Military History.
