BRICS set to meet over Trump trade policies
The Guinean League of Human Rights has condemned the beating and bad treatment of citizens from Guinea-Bissau by Angola’s police force, which has recently been undertaking operations against illegal immigrants of various nationalities.
The Guinean League of Human Rights said it had received complaints from citizens in Angola since last week, with reports of persecutions, beatings and arbitrary arrest, a source from the organisation told Lusa.
The source said the organisation had also received “images of abuse” from citizens from Guinea-Bissau but were asked not to release the images for fear of reprisal.
On Wednesday, the Guinean League of Human Rights plans to send a letter to the secretary of state for communities, Queba Banjai, asking for a standpoint towards “the worrying events” faced by emigrants in Angola, the source added.
The League has also said the Angolan police had “high xenophobic sentiments” and that images circulating on social media networks reflected the “tip of the iceberg of a police force insensitive to human rights, where the culture of impunity is institutionalised.”
