Angola’s National Oil, Gas and Biofuels Agency and Italian oil company Eni on Friday announced the start of production in Cabaça Norte, increasing national production by 15,000 barrels of oil per day.
“The development of Cabaça Norte, in Block 15/06, with an expected peak production of around 15,000 barrels of oil per day, will increase and sustain the ‘plateau’ of Armada Olombendo, an FPSO of zero discharge and process firing, with an overall capacity of 100,000 barrels of oil per day,” a statement sent to Lusa said.
In the text, Angola’s oil regulator said that the start-up of Cabaça Norte is yet another example of how Eni Angola and its partners, under the aegis of ANPG, continue to create value in Block 15/06 through their strategy of infrastructure exploration, generating a line of effective subsea connections and maximising the use of existing facilities in the area in a sustainable way.
This is the second announcement of the start of production made by Eni Angola in 2021, after it anticipated production in the Cuica field, in July, the statement also said, and this year it expects to announce production in Ndungu, in the western area of the block.
Block 15/06 is operated by Eni Angola with a 36.84% stake. Sonangol Pesquisa & Produção (36.84%) and SSI Fifteen Limited (26.32%) make up the remaining contractor group.
Eni Angola is also the operator of the Cabinda Norte and Cabinda Centro exploration blocks, as well as the New Gas Consortium (NGC), and has other stakes in other blocks.
