Angola will host the summit of heads of state and government of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) in December 2022, taking on its presidency, the group’s secretary-general said on Wednesday.
The announcement was made at the end of the meeting that Angola’s Georges Chikoti held today in Luanda with the Angolan Foreign Minister, Téte António.
According to OACPS’s secretary-general, who has been in office since March 2020, the meeting served to address issues relating to the preparation for the summit, scheduled for 6-9 December, 2022.
Georges Chikoti, who was once the head of Angolan diplomacy, said that at the summit Angola will take over the presidency of the OACPS.
The secretary-general of the OACPS, an organisation made up of 79 member-states, created by the Georgetown Agreement in 1975, stressed the support that the Angolan government has given him in his duties, which he will hold until 2025.
The organisation was created to look at sustainable development and poverty reduction in its member states, as well as their greater integration into the world economy.
