On Friday, the interior ministers of Mozambique and Angola signed a visa waiver agreement for ordinary passport holders of both countries, Lusa reports.
“This agreement will allow more visits and exchange of experience between our two countries,” Mozambique interior minister Basilio Monteiro said after signing the agreement with his Angolan counterpart Angelo de Barros in Maputo.
Highlighting the importance of the mechanism for “two countries that share historical ties,” Monteiro said that the agreement would stimulate joint private sector activities.
“We want businessmen to find fewer difficulties in transactions between the two countries,” Monteiro said, adding that the two countries are also increasing cooperation on security issues.
Angola Minister of the Interior Angelo de Barros said the agreement would strengthening bilateral relations by allowing freer movement between the two countries.
“During my visit, we have identified new areas for cooperation. We hope to strengthen our relationship,” said de Barros, who met President Nyusi on Friday.
The minister noted that “this kind of cooperation among African countries is very important and must continue,” also highlighting security as a priority for both parties.
“We want to increase cooperation on police training in security matters,” de Barros said, adding that Mozambique and Angola had always maintained regular contact.
The visa waiver agreement follow President Nyusi’s state visit to Angola last November.
