Manica: Provincial hospital without plaster and reagents

Anadarko and its partners last Friday delivered building materials and hygiene and health equipment valued at US$200,000 to the Institute for Disaster Management (INGC).
The support is intended to reinforce government help for those affected by the gales in the city and province of Maputo on 24 October, which has caused the destruction of houses and public infrastructure leaving families vulnerable.
According to Manuel Guimarães, the Permanent Secretary of Maputo City, the support shows that “Mozambicans and their overseas partners enjoy a tangible solidarity, and they are alert to what goes on in our society”.
“Anadarko has shown that it is here not just to make money but also to work with the Mozambican people. We know that Cabo Delgado is organising social responsibility projects that include building schools, and this is of paramount importance for the population,” Guimarães said.
INGC director João Machatine says that Anadarko’s donation of construction materials was especially valuable, as there were 5,000 families that had lost their homes. “This assistance ensures that ongoing reconstruction and relief efforts can be expedited so that affected families can move forward and resume their normal lives,” Machatine added.
Director-General John Bretz reasserted Anadarko’s long-term partnership with Mozambique and its main institutions.
“Anadarko has been here in Mozambique since 2007. As many of you know, we are working on a major LNG project in northern Mozambique and we hope that over time this will bring significant benefits to the country and success for Anadarko and its business partners. We are investors in Mozambique, but we aspire to be more than that. We believe this is an important part of building a sustainable relationship in Mozambique,” Bretz said.
“By way of support, Anadarko and its fellow concessionaries are contributing a donation of goods valued at approximately US$200,000 to INGC as a way of supporting the victims of this calamity. We believe that it is extremely important that Anadarko provide humanitarian support within our means and capabilities to families who have been devastated by recent natural disasters,” he concluded.
