Amnesty International wants a thorough investigation into the shooting and killing of a pregnant woman in Northern Mozambique.
Footage shows the woman being shot by several men in military uniform.
The government has blamed the shooting on armed rebels but in the video, soldiers accuse the woman of being part of a rebel group.
David Matsinhe, from Amnesty International, said this is not the first incident of this nature.
“If we want to clear all the questions and doubts over who is actually responsible for these atrocities, an independent, open, and transparent is required.”
Matsinhe said residents in Cabo Delgado have shared with Amnesty International that they are forced to flee their homes to escape insurgents who are burning villages and attacking them as well as from the police and Mozambiquan army.
“More than 300,000 [people] have been internally displaced and they are in need of food, water, housing, education, sanitation, and all those basic necessities,” he said.
The organisation is asking for the Mozambican government as well as the international community to intervene to help people access basic services.

Mozambique unrest I Video condemned after showing women being beaten by armed men: Zenaida Machado
There is growing condemnation of a video that surfaced at the beginning of the week on social media, which shows a naked woman being beaten and executed by men in army uniform. The men are heard in the video accusing her of being a member of the terror group, Al-Shabaab. Mozambique is battling an insurgency in its northern gas-rich Cabo Delgado province since 2017. The conflict is one of the least understood in the world, with some militants, claiming allegiance to the Islamic State in the Middle East. We have not been able to independently verify the footage, but the country’s Interior Ministry has said the video is propaganda by terrorists to tarnish the country’s image. Zenaida Machado is a Researcher from Human Rights Watch and she joins me now on Zoom for more on this story.
