Aman, the world’s preeminent hospitality and lifestyle brand, marks its debut in Mozambique through a groundbreaking partnership with Impact Preservation Partners at the Karingani Game Reserve and the proposed Pomene Reserve. True to the pioneering spirit of Aman, two unique resorts will be situated within Karingani Game Reserve and the proposed Pomene Reserve, and are set to redefine high-end tourism, solidifying Mozambique’s position as a luxury tourism destination.
Karingani Game Reserve, sprawling across 150,000 hectares and sharing an 84-kilometer border with the iconic Kruger National Park, offers a diverse and valuable ecosystem. The unique scale of this environment enables Karingani to rival some of the most celebrated African safari destinations.
Karingani has been instrumental in environmental rehabilitation, protection, wildlife conservation, and crucial community infrastructure development, which has led to the employment of over 350 local people and the establishment of essential amenities, such as water, energy, telecommunications, and transportation.
These achievements have subsequently set the foundations for Impact Preservation Partners and Aman to extend their interest in nature based tourism to Pomene conservation area – a proposed public-private partnership governed by a co-management agreement with ANAC, encompassing 695,000 hectares of marine and terrestrial environment. The 97,000 hectares of terrestrial land includes pristine coastal wetlands, indigenous forests, mangroves, and estuary habitats, all set to host a one-of-a-kind Aman hotel.
Representing an authentic move for the brand, both resorts will embrace eco-tourism by contributing significantly to the Karingani Game Reserve and the proposed Pomene Reserve’s overall combined investment plan and elevating the nation to a prominent position as a global high-end tourism destination. The resorts are expected to create over 600 direct job opportunities and 4,800 indirect employment opportunities, making a substantial impact on the local and national economy.
Furthermore, the transformative effect of this project has already commenced with a program to train 46 members of the local Karingani communities at the South African College for Tourism.
Additionally, the surrounding communities of Karingani Game Reserve are already reaping the benefits of newly established infrastructure. This monumental wider investment plan was made possible by the unwavering support of the Mozambican Government, which has ac@vely promoted policies for environmental protec@on and wildlife conserva@on, making these conserva@on areas remarkable des@na@ons for low-density and high-value nature-based tourism investments under Karingani Game Reserve and the Pomene Reserve’s stewardship.
As Aman announces its presence in Mozambique at Karingani – which will be its second location in Africa following Amanjena, located in Morocco’s UNESCO-protected city of Marrakech – the nation is destined to become a global luxury tourism destination. With the country’s splendid natural beauty, diversity and the scale of these locations, and with Aman’s renowned commitment to excellence, Mozambique is set to become the destination of choice for discerning travellers. Further details regarding the resorts will be released in due course.
About Karingani Game Reserve – Karingani Game Reserve is a reserve recognised as an important environmental conservation area for the protection of the history and species of terrestrial mammals, situated in southern Mozambique sharing its borders with South Africa’s Kruger National Park (KNP) and Limpopo National Park (LNP). The reserve forms part of one of the largest protected area systems in the world.
About Pomene Reserve – Located in Inhambane Province on Mozambique’s south-eastern coast, the Pomene National Reserve combines diverse terrestrial habitats with a marine area of exceptional biodiversity. Bordering Bazaruto National Park, its waters host whale sharks, manta rays, humpback whales, sea turtles and one of the largest dugong populations in the Western Indian Ocean. Integrating land and sea into a single conservation area will enhance ecosystem protection while fostering eco-tourism and community development.
