Alleged difficulties obtaining land use rights is preventing resumption of marble quarrying in Montepuez, Cabo Delgado.
Cabo Delgado governor Julio Parruque has been to the Provincial Directorate of Mineral Resources and Energy, and set a three-day deadline for overcoming the impasse, which has been going on for nearly ten years.
According to Radio Mozambique, Provincial Director of Mineral Resources and Energy Ramiro Nguiraze explained that the marble quarry proponent was contesting the close to two hundred million meticais in charges by the Montepuez municipal council to issue the DUAT, Direito de Uso e Aproveitamento de Terra [Land Usage Rights].
