Police in Tete have arrested an alleged human body parts trafficking mastermind. The 32-year-old man was already on the police wanted list for suspected trafficking and human organ extraction crimes last February.
Spokesperson for the police in Tete Lurdes Ferreira said that the arrest came as the result of an investigation that led to the arrest of one of his accomplices, and on information gleaned from the public.
Ferreira said that the police were now pursuing other accomplices, including two individuals accused of cutting off a 23-year-old’s genitals.
“This case occurred in the village of Cachoeira in Moatize district, where two so-far-unidentified individuals accosted a young cattle herder. They immobilized him and cut off part of his genitals using a knife. They also stole some of the cattle he was herding. The individual sought help at the local hospital and was transferred to the provincial hospital in Tete, where he is receiving medical care,” Ferreira said.
