By Tuesday, of the 200,000 doses of the Verocell vaccine that the country received as a donation from China, the total allocated to all provinces of the country amounted to 121,530 doses, according to the Ministry of Health (MISAU).
That leaves 78,470 doses under MISAU management at central level. The fate of these doses is not known, since there is a lack of information and the vaccination plan is still unknown to Mozambicans.
The arithmetic of what has so far been allocated to the provinces is as follows.
There are 121,530 doses – divided by two, since the vaccine is administered twice – so in fact 60,765 ‘full vaccines’, meaning that 60,765 health professionals are likely to be inoculated against the virus, with this first batch.
According to what ‘O País’ understands, the first phase of vaccination prioritises National Health System professionals, and the number of doses distributed covers this class exclusively.
Also according to information from MISAU, health professionals from the private sector, as well as activists who assist activities in the various health units in the country, are also included in the priority group.
However, the doses distributed in all provinces do not include these groups, since they are destined exclusively for the National Health System, and the health sector may decide on distribution to the private sector and to activists later.
It is expected that the vaccination plan will be announced soon, providing more details of the immunisation process for health professionals and also for other groups considered to be priorities.
