The Algerian government has pledged to establish a joint venture aimed at manufacturing electrical equipment and building a thermal power plant to produce 40.2 megawatts of electricity in Mozambique.
According to the Algerian Minister of Energy and Renewable Energy, Mourad Adjal, who was speaking to reporters on Wednesday, after he was granted an audience by Mozambican President Daniel Chapo, the investment is strategic, taking into account the country’s geostrategic role.
“This meeting symbolizes the consolidation of fraternal relations between Mozambique and Algeria. It strengthens our determination to boost partnership within the framework of African cooperation”, he said.
According to Adjal, these projects favor strategic sectors capable of generating immediate and lasting economic impact.
“We are determined to implement this cooperation on the ground as quickly as possible”, he said. “I hope this visit produces satisfactory results that meet the aspirations of our leaders and the peoples of Mozambique and Algeria”.
For his part, Estêvão Pale, the Mozambican Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, said “the meeting allowed us to review the various areas that can be developed and the aspects that can be implemented more quickly, for the benefit of our two economies, our countries, and our peoples.”
Pale explained that Algeria also expressed its willingness to support Mozambique in developing research and technical training, particularly in the oil, gas, and electricity sectors, with a focus on leveraging resources for domestic and industrial benefits.
“There are several areas, from research, prospecting, and exploration, to the utilization of our gas, for the benefit of the domestic market and industrialization. Algeria’s experience may contribute to intensifying natural gas exploration in the country”, he said.
“The Algerians have extensive experience. There are matters that are still being discussed with the Algerian side and that can be used to ensure the increase and continuity of natural gas production in Mozambique”, he added.
