The South African Airlink Company has denies that it has suspended issuing air tickets in Mozambique, as reported earlier this week.
The company did threaten to suspend the issuing of tickets, “if the authorities continue to block the repatriation of its revenue from local ticket sales.”
According to Villiers Engelbrecht, Airlink Chief Executive Officer, cited in Friday’s issue of the independent newsheet “Carta de Moçambique”, since Airlink sent the warning letter, there have been some positive developments over the last week, including a meeting held on Monday.
“There have been some encouraging developments, including high-level meetings with relevant Mozambican banking and government authorities on Monday afternoon. Based on these frank and good-faith discussions, we are optimistic that the Mozambican authorities will quickly present a solution that will allow Airlink to expedite the repatriation of its revenue generated from sales in the Mozambican market”, he said.
Engelbrecht explained that the company continues to provide vital scheduled air services between South Africa and Mozambique, “with round-trip flights to several destinations, including Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Pemba, Tete, and Vilanculos. Maputo also operates 21 weekly flights from Johannesburg and four from Cape Town.”
