At least 106 people in Mozambique die from diseases associated with HIV/Aids every day.
The updated figures, which place Mozambique as one of the countries with the highest HIV/Aids rates in the world, were presented at the Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday, 30 August.
Data indicates that 1.5 million people in the country are living with the disease. Gaza province, in the south, is worst affected with 25.1 percent HIV prevalence, followed by Maputo province, with 19.9 percent, and Maputo city, with 16.8 percent.
Then come Sofala, with 15.5 percent, Manica (15.3 percent), Zambézia (12.6 percent), Cabo Delgado (9.5 percent), Tete (7 percent), Nampula (4.6 percent) and Niassa, in the far north, with 3.7 percent.
Despite the high rates of HIV/Aids, daily infection rates and the overall level of HIV prevalence have fallen.
Sexual intercourse remains the leading cause of infection, followed by mother-to-child transmission.
