Sugar workers in Xinavane, Maputo province, will not embark on the fifteen-day strike they had scheduled for today.
The workers were demanding the payment in full of last year’s “thirteenth month” bonus, after the company had announced that it would pay only half the amount.
The strike was cancelled following an agreement reached over the weekend between company management and the union, Maputo Provincial Director for Labour, Employment and Social Security Olga Manjate said.
