Afonso Dhlakama absent from daughter’s funeral for security reasons

The funeral of the daughter of Renamo leader Afonso Dhlakama took place on Saturday morning in Maputo. The Renamo leader was not present at the ceremony for security reasons, according to Renamo Secretary General Manuel Bissopo.

Dozens of people attended the funeral ceremony of Isabel Afonso Dhlakama, who died last Wednesday in Maputo. Among those present, among other relatives, were Afonso Dhlakama’s brothers, members of Renamo, the government, and personalities of the most diverse sensitivities, stood out.

In the name of the family, Elias Macacho Marceta Dhlakama, uncle of the deceased, said that the death of Isabel Dhlakama represented a loss within the family.

“If for the family the absence of Afonso Dhlakama makes little difference,” O País reports, for Manuel Bissopo, the issue is a question of security, or the lack of it”.

The government was represented by the Minister for Women, Gender and Social Action, Cidália Chauque Oliveira, for whom a life that had much to give the family and the country had been lost.

Isabel Afonso Dhlakama was 37 years old, lived in the city of Maputo and leaves a daughter.
