The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved EUR 12.5 million in financial support for Mozambique to implement DRARP, the Drought Recovery and Agriculture Resilience Project.
“The project is aimed at building the capacity of rural communities to meet the challenges of climate change, poverty, food insecurity and land degradation,” a report released by the AfDB on Tuesday said.
Over a five-year period, it will support the provision of irrigation infrastructure, improvement of food production and marketing activities, and capacity-building in affected communities.
The project will be implemented in four districts exposed to drought – Magude, Matutuine, Chigubo and Chibuto – with a total of about 20,000 direct and 20,000 indirect beneficiaries, the document indicates.
With improved food marketing, the project predicts that it will be possible “to increase the resilience of communities to climate change”.
