Jornal O País / The African Development Bank (ADB) has approved the granting of a loan of $300 million to Brazilian group Vale to support the construction of a railway line in Mozambique.
This is the line connecting the town of Moatize, in Tete province (in the center of the coal basin of Mozambique), to the deep water port of Nacala, with a length of 912 kilometers, of which 230 km correspond to a new construction allowing access to the province of Nampula, through Malawi.
This project, included in the so called Nacala Corridor will allow, according to the ADB, “Increase the competitiveness of Mozambique with regard to the export of minerals, including coal and facilitate the development, both agricultural and industrial region crossed by the railroad.”
The ADB points out, in a recently released statement, its continued support to the Nacala Corridor, which had already financed the road network in Lusaka, capital of Zambia, to Nacala.
