Mozambique to host 2026 AUSC Region 5 Youth Games
The Mozambique national football team coach Abel Xavier has two decisive matches against Ghana next month to qualify for the African Cup of Nations in Gabon in 2017, in the same month that the Moçambola national championship begins.
Addressing the subject in her speech at the Moçambola gala held on Monday, deputy minister of Youth and Sport Ana Flavia Azinheira said that the expectation surrounding the Mambas “is very great, because Mozambicans are thirsty for victories. But for these to happen, it is important that everyone is reading for the same page”.
“The Mambas belong neither to the Federation and nor to the coach. The Mambas belong to all of us Mozambicans. Therefore, we must unite around the team and support the coach and national selector, Abel Xavier, and support and nurture the players and the Federation to reach this common goal – a presence at the African Cup of Nations,” she said.
According to the deputy minister, the Moçambola is “a major source of players for the selection. With a more competitive league, we will surely also have more competitive selection, and more up to the pressure and challenges that lie ahead”.
