To end second, the national team, ranked last in the group with four points, must beat Mauritius, which has six points, and hope that Rwanda, also with six points, are beaten by or draw with Ghana (13 points ) in Accra. The ‘Mambas’ take forward the advantage in direct confrontation with Rwanda, having won 3-2 in Kigali after losing 1-0 in Maputo.
Xavier has brought several options into the team for the clash with Mauritius, among them the best Mozambicans playing abroad and some of the best athletes in the Moçambola. He said he had the best options to draw on and was confident of victory, but regretted the absence of some players due to injury.
Among them are Reinildo, of Benfica, Portugal, and Nelson, from Costa do Sol, Maputo, who are recovering from injuries, while Boné Uaferro, Fortuna, Germany ,did not respond to the call.
As for Boné, Xavier said that attempts at contact were unsuccessful, stressing that those who did not want to play in the national team were obliged to say so officially.
To plug the gaps left by these athletes, the Mambas coach of has called up Edmilson, Ferroviário de Maputo, and Chicualacuala, Chibuto. As for Nelson, Xavier said that alternatives would be found at the group level.
