“A door was closed in 2018, but another may open in 2019,” is how Samora Machel Junior reacted in Maputo on Wednesday on the banning of the Youth Development Association of Mozambique (AJUDEM) from local elections in the city of Maputo in October.
During his speech, Samora Machel Junior said that when one door closes, another opens, and that a door had closed in 2018 but that another may open in 2019. However, he said, quoted by independent daily O País, he is currently looking at the door that had closed, without making it clear whether or not he would run in the 2019 presidential election.
Regarding his position on the outcome of the case, he said that the answer did not lie with him, but that change was a process that took time to be accepted, and he pledged to continue working for the well-being of the people.
At the end of his speech, he called on all to go and vote, regardless of AJUDEM and its head-of-list not being able to participate.
