Peace Corps to close country program in Mozambique

Nearly 73,000 of the 115,000 inhabitants of Lago district, Niassa province, have only untreated water to drink, with the water supply coverage rate in the region only 37.9 percent.
Lago district currently has 141 water sources and 115,200 inhabitants. To address the situation, 29 water supply holes are expected to be brought on line this year, giving 4,000 more access to water underground water.
Lago District Administrator Deolinda Alfeu says that public meetings about the basic hygiene required to prevent the outbreak of waterborne diseases are ongoing.
