7 more test COVID-19 positive, total cases rise to 28 in Mozambique

The number of officially registered cases of infection with the new coronavirus in Mozambique has risen from 21 to 28, the Ministry of Health announced today.

“Of the 79 suspected cases tested in the past 24 hours, 72 were found to be negative and seven were positive. So we have a total of 28 positive cases,” said Rosa Marlene, national director of public health, speaking at a press briefing, held in the Ministry of Health in Maputo.

O País reports that the seven new cases announced today all result from the investigation being carried out in Cabo Delgado, where the first infected citizen passed the disease to nine others and they infected seven more.

Given the seriousness of the situation, adds O País, the Health sector announced the start of mapping the third network of contacts of the first infected citizen who was in Cabo Delgado.

Meanwhile, more samples are expected to arrive from Cabo Delgado and there are 76 people under close monitoring, adds the same source.

Of the seven positive cases confirmed over the last 24 hours, six patients are in Cabo Delgado and one in Maputo City, reads a National Health Institute communique, published here: www.covid19.ins.gov.mz

To date, Mozambique has tested 762 suspected cases.

Of the 79 samples tested, 50 are related to the investigation of the second round of contacts in the Cabo Delgado case. Of these 50 samples related to the first detected Cabo Delgado case, 49 samples were collected in Afungi and one in the city of Maputo.

According to the Deputy Director-General of the National Health Institute, Eduardo Samo Gudo, with the seven new cases, begins the investigation of the third round of contacts associated to the positive cases which have been being diagnosed in the Total camp, in Afungi, Cabo Delgado.

“With the new cases which tested positive, today we begin to map the third network of contacts related to the investigation in Cabo Delgado. It is important to note that our epidemiological investigation teams are currently mapping the network of contacts of new positive cases for follow-up and testing ”, explained Samo Gudo, indicating that, from the second network, 27 other samples from Afungi and Pemba are expected to arrive to Maputo for testing

It should be noted that, according to the health authorities, all the positive cases so far identified in relation to the investigation in Cabo Delgado, are in isolation at home and the contacts remain in self-quarantine.

Of the 28 positive cases diagnosed in the country, 20 are locally transmitted and eight imported. In terms of location, 14 are in Maputo City and the others in Cabo Delgado province, two in Pemba and 12 in Afungi.

Os sete novos casos resultam da investigação que está a ser feita em Cabo Delgado, onde o primeiro cidadão infectado passou a doença a outras nove e estas infectaram a mais sete.

Dada a gravidade da situação, o sector da Saúde anunciou o arranque do mapeamento da terceira rede de contactos do primeiro cidadão infectado que esteve em Cabo Delgado.

Enquanto isso, se espera que mais amostras cheguem de Cabo Delgado e há 76 pessoas em acompanhamento.

Registados 7 casos Positivos nas últimas 24 horas

Moçambique registou, nas últimas 24 horas, sete novos casos positivos da Covid-19, elevando para 28 o número de casos diagnosticados. Esta informação foi tornada pública na tarde desta segunda-feira pela directora nacional de Saúde Pública, Rosa Marlene, na habitual Conferência de Imprensa de actualização de dados sobre a pandemia.

Até ao momento o país testou 762 casos suspeitos da Covid-19, sendo que 79 foram nas últimas 24 horas, de onde sete revelaram-se positivos (seis em Cabo Delgado e 1 na Cidade de Maputo).

Das 79 amostras testadas, 50 estão relacionadas com a investigação da segunda ronda dos contactos do caso de Cabo Delgado, sendo que 49 foram amostras extraídas em Afungi e um da cidade de Maputo.

Segundo deu a conhecer o director-geral adjunto do Instituto Nacional de Saúde, Eduardo Samo Gudo, com os sete novos casos diagnosticados se inicia a investigação da terceira rede de contactos associados aos casos positivos que vêm sendo diagnosticados no acampamento da empresa Total, em Afungi, Cabo Delgado.

“Com os novos casos testados positivo iniciamos, hoje, o mapeamento da terceira rede de contactos relacionados com a investigação de Cabo Delgado. É importante referir que as nossas equipas de investigação epidemiológica estão neste momento a efectuar o mapeamento da rede de contactos dos novos casos positivos para o seguimento e testagem”, explicou o responsável, indicando que da segunda rede, estão por vir a Maputo para testagem outras 27 amostras de Afungi e Pemba para testagem.

Refira-se que de acordo com as autoridades de saúde, todos os casos positivos identificados até o momento, relacionados com a investigação em Cabo Delgado, estão em isolamento domiciliar e os contactos mantêm-se em auto-quarentena.

Os 28 casos positivos diagnosticados no país, 20 são de transmissão local e 8 importados. Em termos de localização, 14 estão na Cidade de Maputo e os outros em Cabo Delgado, sendo dois em Pemba e 12 em Afungi.
