Mozambique: Police in Zambézia seek help recapturing prisoners who escaped during demonstrations

The last days of 2017 saw heavy rains and strong winds in Gaza, Zambézia and Tete provinces, with a total of 667 families, corresponding to 3,433 people, affected. In Gaza, about 3200 people were affected, followed by Zambézia with 150 and Tete with 70.
In the central and northern regions, rain was heaviest in Zambézia, Nampula, Niassa and Cabo Delgado, with between 100 and 200 millimeters recorded.
Strong winds were recorded in Tete, and the south generally suffered from rain and winds along the coast of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane provinces on 31 December and 1 and 2 January 2018.
The National Institute for Disaster Management warns of rain across the country for the next 10 days, with significant rainfall expected in Cabo Delgado.
A tropical system to the east of Madagascar is expected to send blasts of wind and rain along coastal areas of Sofala, Zambezia and the north of Inhambane, with winds of up to 60 to 70 kilometers per hour, INGC spokesman Paulo Tomás said.
