Mozambique: Renamo demobilized complain about date of National Council - AIM report | Watch
The Mozambican state-owned news agency AIM has reported that “at least five armed Renamo men were killed on Tuesday in the Clumaze area a few kilometres from Satungira, in the central province of Sofala, where Renamo Afonso Dhlakama had set up his headquarters in 2012.”
According to an AIM source in Satungira, the “armed Renamo men were shot by Defence and Security Forces when they attempted to ambush a military supply column”.
AIM also reports that in the early hours of Wednesday, another group of Renamo armed men tried unsuccessfully to storm the police station at the entrance of Gorongosa village, seriously injuring one Rapid Intervention Unit police officer.
“The situation is reported to be calm and controlled,” the report continues. “These actions having occurred far from Gorongosa village, the population continues to work quietly in their fields, taking advantage of the rains that have fallen in recent days.”
Renamo attacks, most of which take place in the central part of Mozambique, arise from the former rebel movement’s claim to be the legitimate government in the six provinces where it says it won the October 2014 general elections.
