Mozambique: Three Nampula radio stations resume broadcasting after 48-hour suspension
Armed clashes are preventing more than 36,000 students studying in four of Mozambique’s provinces.
A survey conducted by the Ministry of Education and Human Development from mid-March has found that 97 schools are closed in Manica, Sofala, Tete and Zambezia as a direct result of clashes between security forces and the armed wing of Renamo.
The data was collected by the provincial departments of education at the request of the ministry, the schools in question having failed to provide statistics on the number of students who have enrolled this year.
“We continue to work along all possible avenues and check with schools which for security reasons have had to close. We do not want to endanger the life of a single child or teacher,” Education minister Jorge Ferrao said.
