Twenty-five motorists have been charged in Maputo with trying to bribe traffic police to evade sanctions for disregarding traffic regulations.
In an attempt to evade the consequences of noncompliance with basic traffic rules, these motorists inserted notes ranging from 50 to 500 meticais into their vehicle registration documents or driving licenses, but ended up in the cells nonetheless.
Police in the city of Maputo says that the time when money might secure malefactors from legitimate sanction was long past.
The police also arrested some young individuals for the theft of motorcycles and car accessories, said to be among the “machete men” who assaulted a young man who is still in hospital.
