Mozambique: Six Pakistani citizens detained in Vanduzi, Manica province
The Mozambican defence and security forces killed 22 islamist terrorists in land and air operations last Tuesday, in Mocimboa da Praia district, in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, according to unnamed military sources cited in Friday’s issue of the independent newssheet “Mediafax”.
These sources claimed that 13 of the terrorists were captured, but were then shot after they refused to cooperate with the defence forces.
Other members of the same group escaped, and it is thought that they fled northwards, towards Palma district, or westwards towards Nangade.
There are also reports that government forces shelled islamists on Wednesday, near the southern part of Mocimboa da Praia, causing another group of terrorists to flee.
The newsheet’s sources claim that, during the Tuesday clashes, two members of the defence and security forces lost their lives. They added that ten members of the defence forces are believed to have died when the terrorists attacked the town of Macomia on 28 May, and their bodies have yet to be found.
Meanwhile, grisly attacks against civilians continue. On Wednesday night, the terrorists beheaded eleven people in the Quiterajo administrative post, in Macomia district.
A second newssheet, “Mediafax”, reports that a group of about ten terrorists, fleeing from the operations of the government forces, on Tuesday kidnapped two girls from Mpanga village in Mocimboa da Praia.
The following day a group of islamists attacked Mitumbate village, where they killed at least one person. A source in Mocimboa da Praia said that he saw two elderly people taken to the local hospital, after they had been savagely beaten by this terrorist group.
