Twenty-one Mozambican students from different parts of the country have been selected to study for Bachelor and Masters’ degrees in France, as part of a programme supported by the Total Energies and the French embassy in Mozambique.
Among them is 18-year-old Chayrnila Panguene from Maputo, who left this morning and will study chemical engineering for three years, her eyes firmly set on the abundance of hydrocarbons in Mozambique. Chaymila says that her father encouraged her to apply and, having been selected, she now looks forward to making a valuable contribution to the country.
“It’s an opportunity to work with the resources we have here in Mozambique, as the oil and gas is included in that course, something interesting that I really liked,” she enthused.
Holder of a degree in International Relations and Diplomacy, Adolfo Neves, aged 24, is also travelling to France. He will study for a Master’s degree in Political Ideas in a Digital Age. “It is an opportunity to fulfil the mission of being part of the group of catalysts for development in this country, in an era in which qualified human capital is much needed,” Neves says.
The French oil major TotalEnergies and the French embassy want the programme to be sustainable, comprehensive and representative, supporting the participation of women.
Leonardo Nhavoto, director of the Local Content Department at TotalEnergies, described the training the Mozambicans will receive in France.
“Students will participate in training in Engineering, Management, Accounting, Biology, Law and Technology, and we are also trying to open the way so that we are not compartmentalised in terms of knowledge.”
In turn, the chargé d’affaires at the French embassy in Mozambique, Samuel Richard, talked about the benefits of the project for young people.
“I can say here that this programme will continue every year, between French companies and the French government, with a view to improving the training of Mozambican students.”
Of the 21 young people selected to benefit from scholarships, 11 travelled on Tuesday, and the other ten will follow in due course.
