Mozambique: UIR officers reportedly killed in Cabo Delgado ambush

The police in the western Mozambican city of Tete on Thursday arrested a 20 year old man, accusing him of attempted trafficking in human body parts.
The man, Eurico de Paz Bulha, is said to have obtained male genitals which he hid inside a chicken, which he then conserved in a freezer belonging to his elder brother.
But Bulha at first told journalists he did not know about the human body parts hidden in the chicken. He said that a friend, whom he named only as Nelson, had given him the chicken and asked him to store it in a freezer until he decided to eat it.
Half an hour later he changed his story and told policemen and journalists “I want to tell the truth. I knew that the chicken contained human organs. My friend Nelson said I wasn’t to tell anybody about it. To keep my mouth shut, he promised me 5,000 meticais (about 110 US dollars, at current exchange rates)”.
Bulha said he did not know where the male genitalia had come from, or what Nelson planned to do with them. Nelson had told him “to alert my brother not to cook the chicken, but I was afraid to say this to my brother because it might have tipped him off”.
Bulha confessed that he was a thief, but insisted he had nothing to do with stolen body parts. The police have arrested him not only for trafficking in human body parts, but also for the theft of seven computers from a public institution run by the Ministry of Health.
His brother, Cabisso Manuel Bulha, said he discovered the human genitals when he told a boy living in his house to prepare a chicken for dinner. “The boy said we didn’t have any chickens except one we were keeping for my brother”, he explained. “I said that was no problem – we could eat it, and replace it the next day”.
So the boy unfroze the chicken, opened it up and was shocked to find “a strange object inside”. When Cabisso Bulha saw the male genitals, he went looking for his brother. When he was unable to find him, he decided to report the matter to the police. He then found out that his brother was already under arrest for the computer theft,
The spokesperson for the Tete police, Lurdes Ferreira, said the police are looking for Bulha’s friend Nelson, but he is believed to have taken refuge in Zambia. “We are also investigating to see if anybody else is involved in this group”, added Ferreira.
This is far from the first time that such grisly crimes have been reported in Tete. Last year two people were arrested for trying to sell male genitalia. In 2014, another two traffickers were arrested after they had cut off the genitals from a boy who later lost his life because of the appalling mutilation he had suffered.
