A total of 14 Mozambican embassies worldwide will begin to collect data for the issuance and renewal of passports and identity cards by the end of the year, a source from the National Migration Service of Mozambique (SENAMI) announced on Thursday.
“In Portugal and Ethiopia, the pioneers in this process, the demand from users is reasonable, and we believe that we will provide a better assistance to Mozambicans,” says Arsénia Massingue, director general of SENAMIi, quoted today by the daily Notícias.
After this pilot phase, the service will be available by December at national diplomatic representations in Zimbabwe, Kenya, Germany, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, Algeria, Brazil, Tanzania, Malawi, India, South Africa and China.
“We have had many complaints from compatriots in the diaspora who want to renew their expired documents but, due to travel costs, have not been able to come to the country for this purpose. And we are not always able to send mobile brigades to all countries,” Massingue explained.
The new service will collect data and send it to Maputo, where they will be analysed. Once checked, identification and travel documents will be issued and sent to diplomatic representations for collection by holders.
