Cholera cases in the province of Sofala are increasing, with the city of Beira in the spotlight. Since Thursday, 134 new cases have been registered, bringing the total to 139.
In order to limit the spread of the disease, the World Health Organization is mounting a vaccination campaign in areas affected by Cyclone Idai, starting next Monday and providing 900,000 oral doses of cholera vaccine along with diagnostic tests, intravenous fluids, and supplements to treat diarrhea and malaria.
The campaign will take place in the city of Beira and in Dondo, Búzi and Nhamatanda districts, the areas worst affected by floods in the province.
