Ten scholarship recipients from Mozambique and Eswatini will travel to Ireland this month to pursue one-year master’s degree programmes at various Irish universities, under the Ireland-Africa Fellowship Programme, fully funded by the Government of Ireland.
Among the selected students are eight Mozambicans (three men and five women) and two young women from Eswatini. The fellows were chosen through a highly competitive and rigorous selection process, which prioritised academic merit, professional experience, and commitment to the development of their home countries.
The Ireland-Africa Fellowship Programme is a strategic initiative of the Government of Ireland that provides opportunities for advanced education to young emerging leaders, with the aim of strengthening capacity and technical skills in strategic areas for sustainable development. Upon their return, fellows will apply the knowledge they gain to actively contribute to the progress of Mozambique and Eswatini, in fields such as governance, education, gender equality, health, climate change, and peacebuilding, all priority areas for the Embassy of Ireland in Mozambique.
Ireland has an internationally renowned education system, with a strong academic tradition and emphasis on innovation and scientific research, making Ireland an ideal place to develop skills. Since the programme’s inception, many Mozambicans have already graduated in Ireland in diverse academic fields, at some of the country’s most prestigious universities, globally recognised for the quality of their master’s programmes and applied research.
The Ireland-Africa Fellowship Programme represents a bridge between education in Ireland and the practical application of knowledge for sustainable and inclusive development in Mozambique and Eswatini. This initiative reinforces Ireland’s strong commitment to investing in human capital.
