You don’t want to miss ‘O Casal Palavrakis’ @ Teatro Avenida, Maputo – on their last two evenings on stage together… for now
Theatre has returned to Teatro Avenida this week, with the drama "O Casal Palavrakis – Os Leprosos", by Spanish playwright Angélica Liddell, adapted and directed by Venâncio Calisto, and performed by actors Adelium Castelo and Lizha Fox.
The piece premiered on Saturday (24th of August) at Avenida and will be on stage on the 29th (Thursday) and 31st of August (Saturday), always at 6 p.m. . Teatro Avenida is located in Maputo's Baixa, on 1179 Av. 25 de Setembro.
'El Matrimonio Palavrakis' tells of the turbulent married life of Elsa and Matteo. Both were victims of abuse in childhood and live for each other, especially after their daughter was murdered. They face the cruelty of the world and the repeated trauma of the abyss.
In this mise-en-scene, Venâncio Calisto challenges himself to establish a narrative that dialogues with the current Mozambican reality and universal issues present in a contemporary drama whose strength lies in delineating the human condition.
The piece marks the debut in Mozambique of the Movimento de Teatro da Experimentação dos Sentidos (TES), a multidisciplinary artistic collective that emerged in response to the problem of hunger in a world in constant convalescence. It was created in 2020 at the height of the Covid pandemic by a collective of multidisciplinary artists from different parts of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP).
The presentation in Maputo marks a step towards a tour that the play is intended to take around the country and the world. The show may reach the cities of Chimoio, Beira and Nampula in September, and is also scheduled to be shown in Cape Verde in November.
