About the event
This Season will be directed by the Portuguese maestro José Eduardo Gomes.
The Xiquitsi project, with artistic direction of Kika Materula, has as its main objective the formation of the first Youth Orchestra of Classical Music in Mozambique.
About José Eduardo Gomes
José Eduardo Gomes is Associate Conductor of the Classical Orchestra of the South and Master Conductor of the Classical Orchestra of FEUP. He is a professor at ESMAE - Porto, where he holds the position of conductor responsible for the Symphonic Orchestra. Until June 2018, he was Master Conductor of the Classical Orchestra of the Center. He was a semifinalist in the 1st Concorso Città di Brescia Giancarlo Facchinetti in Italy.
José Eduardo Gomes began to study clarinet in Vila Nova de Famalicão, his native city. He continued his training at ARTAVE and ESMAE - Porto, where he graduated in the class of António Saiote, having received the António de Almeida Foundation Award. Later he studied orchestral direction at the Haute École de Musique de Genève (Switzerland), with Laurent Gay, and choral direction, with Celso Antunes.
He is a founding member of the Vintage Quartet and the Serenade Ensemble. He was Principal Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Carouge, Switzerland and Master Conductor of the Opera Circle. He has performed in the most outstanding music festivals in Portugal, such as "Dias da Música", Sintra Festival, Young Musicians Prize and Cantabile Festival. In 2018 he was awarded the Cultural Merit Medal of the City of Vila Nova de Famalicão. Future projects include the direction of the Gulbenkian Orchestra and the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra.
