About the event
The Brasil-Moçambique Cultural Center will pay tribute to Nelson Mandela on July 18, the day of his birth, as a way to value the struggle for freedom, justice and democracy around the world. The date was established in his honor by the United Nations as the International Day Nelson Mandela.
Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, political leader, and philanthropist who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalized racism and fostering racial reconciliation. Ideologically an African nationalist and socialist, he served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) party from 1991 to 1997.
Mandela was the most powerful symbol of the struggle against the segregationist regime of Apartheid, a racist system made official in 1948, and a worldwide model of resistance. In the words of Ali Abdessalam Treki, President of the United Nations General Assembly, "one of the greatest moral and political leaders of our time."
The presentation will be in storytelling format and will feature the performance of the actors Expedito Araujo and Klemente Tsamba. (Source: Wikipedia)
