Mozambique: ENI Open Day
Theater – “The Hallucinated”
The play tells the story of a psychiatric hospital where frequent death occurs. Dr. Joaquina, the hospital director, is an aggressive woman and becomes even more aggressive when she loses her grandchild after a failed kidnapping attempt.
In bringing his son-in-law, Augusto, the father of her grandson, to the hospital seeks revenge on him and their stories intersect with that of the other mentally ill patients (Luís, Manuel and Elias) who are also in the hospital. This whole plot is triggered by the curiosity of Dr. Clara and her trainee, João, sent from the Ministry of Health to investigate the reasons for the frequent deaths in the hospital. The story is a criticism of how the mentally ill are viewed by society, and seeks to show that behind the story of each of them lies social evil.
