“Arte Assinada no Feminino” at MUSART
Tchakaze at Uptown
Tchakaze was born in the city of Maputo, in the neighborhood of Mahlazine. Like many local artists, her relationship with music began at church at the age of nine. Some time later, while working on the discovery of her vocation, she joined the dance group formed by the dancer of the National Company of Singing and Dancing, Pérola Jaime, where she was "diagnosed the advanced singing virus."
In this sense, and because at that time she felt prepared to tread the paths of music, despite her age, at age 15, she began to take the stage with the most audacious musicians in Africa, as is the case of Pen Pen. It was the beginning of a true musical history.
In addition to South African singer Pen Pen, she continued to sing in the choir with several other artists. Although her passion is still for the choir - in addition to later discovering her new identity - Tchakaze left the area to make way for her solo career.
Tchakaze draws inspiration from Xichangana (a local maternal language in the South of Mozambique). She sings and enchants in her mother tongue. Therefore, along with many others who value their languages, the artist entered the musical landscape not only to move masses but to bring reflections around our sneaky habits.
It is no accident that in her first appearance in music, the singer proposes a debate on domestic violence. It is therefore with that purpose-to put people to debate about the violence - that Tchakaze launched Nkata.
