Mozambique: ENI Open Day
Sara Carneiro Exhibition
Sara Carneiro is a young Portuguese artist who was born in the city of Viseu in 1994. In 2012 she continued her studies in Fine Arts at the University of Porto, where in 2016 she graduated in Multimedia.
During the study period, she participated in different collective and individual exhibitions such as: "CARMO is a woman's name" at Galeria Carmo'81, "Positivo\Negativo" at Galeria Almadas and "The Things We Build" at CACE Cultural in Porto.
In 2016 she worked as an assistant in Baltazar Torres studio and in early 2017 she traveled to Mozambique to study at the Higher Institute of Art and Culture, where she is currently teaching Multimedia.
In her work, Sara finds objects of interest that allow her to express thoughts within her imagination. In the solo exhibition "Do Norte para Sul, entre a Paisagem e o Homem", the artist gives an introspective portrait of her personal relationship with Mozambique. This exhibition brings together different paintings sent to the first phase of falling in love with the Mozambican plains. Gradually these works are becoming darker, moving away from the heavens and approaching issues of identity and historical awareness. This last stage consists of several works with burnt black oil and self-portraits.
