Reading Workshop: works by Carolina Maria de Jesus
On November 21 two sessions of the Reading Workshop based on the works of the Afro-Brazilian writer Carolina Maria de Jesus (1914-1977), author of "Eviction Room: diary of a favelada" and "House of masonry: diary of an ex-favelada". The activity is carried out with didactic material elaborated in the project "Literatura Comunica!". The activity has as public target over 16 years, with a maximum of 18 places per class and duration of 2 hours. Registration can be done at CCBM.
The Carolina Maria de Jesus Reading Wheel was awarded the All for One Brazil Prize from Readers of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture (2015). In 2016, the workshop was also held in the Brazilian states of Espírito Santo, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Norte. In 2018, for the first time, it is being held in Mozambique, after passing through Angola.
About Miriane Peregrino
Miriane Peregrino is a cultural producer, researcher and popular educator. Created the project of reading wheels in 2013 in the favela of Maré, in Rio de Janeiro. She is currently an exchange student at the Agostinho Neto University in Angola and a doctoral student in Literature Science at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ / Brazil).
About Carolina Maria de Jesus
Carolina Maria de Jesus was a paper picker, a maid and only attended two years of formal schooling. But the taste and habit of reading widened his gaze and sharpened his desire to write. Through writing, Carolina denounced in her books the difficulties of life in the favela, the neglect of public power, the corruption of politicians, and dreamed, always while fighting daily against hunger. The writer became famous when her diary "Eviction Room" was published in 1960. At that time, the writer lived in the Canindé favela in São Paulo.
