Mozambique: ENI Open Day
“Pina” by Wim Wenders
Pina Bausch, a choreographer and longtime friend of the filmmaker, is nominated for the Oscar for Best Documentary in 2012, as well as a look at body movement and dance art. In the early 1970s, Pina took over the direction of Tanztheater Wuppertal, a dance company that bears his name today. At age 68, the German choreographer passed away in June 2009, shortly after the start of the documentary's recordings. Having filmed only four works for the film - Le Sacre du Printemps, 1975, Kontakthof, 1978, Café Muller, 1978, and Vollmond, 2006 - Wenders decided to continue with the project after Pina's death, interspersing scenes from shows with interviews and testimonies of the company's dancers.
