About the documentary
PANDZA is a Mozambican expression.
"Das dificuldades, fazer oportunidades - Turning challenges into opportunities“
In the local languages Xichangana and Xironga, the word PANDZA means to beat, to break or to rip something apart. Colloquially PANDZA expresses confusion or mixture, in both a positive and negative light. But PANDZA is also a style of music and a dance.
PANDZA Land focuses on the reality and relation between Mozambican attitude and the popular electronic style of music, which is inspired by the situation. The everyday expression came to be what it is through the music. It means to mix and involve one’s self. PANDZA is mixing global and traditional rhythms in English, Portuguese and regional languages. The lyrics play with events everyday life.
PANDZA Land, realized by a local team, subtly conveys the emotion of a place through its music. Concept and filming were kindly supported by the musicians of REPÚBLICA DO PANDZA and the young dancers OS BONECOS, who openly gave access to their way of live. This joint initiative was experimental as much as it was fun, capturing a moment in time in a country that is thriving on the cheerful optimism of its people.
