Naguib talks at ‘Mabulu – Books and Stories of My Life’
The Fernando Leite Couto Foundation this Wednesday welcomes visual artist and man of culture Naguib, for an informal conversation, "to understand his artistic path and what lies behind his vision of the world,'' announces the organisation, which has been promoting regular meetings with artists and protagonists of Mozambican culture under the title: 'Mabulu – Books and Stories of My Life'.
Naguib is one of Mozambique's most prestigious artists, and his reputation has long transcended borders. His works are on show in various spaces in the country and abroad, including the headquarters of the United Nations. He is a man of culture, and thinks about the country from the point of view of socio-artistic development.
He has created several murals in the city of Maputo, namely “Ode to Samora Machel” on the Maputo Marginal and “The Water Paths” at the Maxaquene reservoir.
The talk takes place on Wednesday, July 26th, at 6 pm, Fernando Leite Couto Foundation, Av. Kim Il Sung, nº 961, Maputo +258 21 48 69 57. Entry is free.
Naguib Elias Abdula was born in Tete in 1955. After studying at Colégio de São José de Tete, he studied civil construction in Maputo.
He continued his studies at the Escola Superior Belas Artes in Lisbon and is doing internships in screen printing at the University of Cape Town and in art conservation and restoration at the Kunst Museum in Cologne, Germany, as well as an internship at the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Northumbria, in England.
Naguib began his artistic career in 1975, exactly one year after Mozambique's independence.
