About the event
Presentation by artist Marilú Namoda:
“Memories of a Dog Tongue” is an immersive installation that emerges from my childhood memories. Memories that mark the relationship I establish with my indigenous language - O Chwabo.
A present past of forbidden learning, interrupted and that remain fragmented. Memories that serve to remind us of the racist civilizing conceptions that were created and imposed upon us and which we unconsciously reproduce every day.
Central to this artistic proposal is a re-created alphabet based on visual and meaning references from the ancient Bantu symbolic writing system and some of the few Chwabo words I have in mind.
The installation intends to question ethnic identities in postcoloniality and to build a utopian space (pastopias) to re-signify this historical legacy as a healing experience for intergenerational identity trauma.
What does it mean to be a Bantu people today?”
