Maputo Street Art: The festival you just can’t miss!
From Wednesday (29-11) to Sunday (03-12), the city of Maputo is hosting the first edition of the International Street Art Festival, which aims to expand the impact of urban artistic expression in the country’s capital and beyond.
The event brings together several Mozambican and international artists, who will present a variety of activities, including mural painting, youth development workshops and concerts.
Initiatives linked to gender equality, facilitated debates, community theatre, poetry, dance, film screenings, giant puppets, food sales, fashion shows, talent exhibitions and sewing are also scheduled.
One of the event’s goals is to bring artists and communities together to recreate neighbourhood narratives, promote artistic expression, empower youth, create open forums for artistic discussion, teach technical skills and, ultimately, invoke community development.
The International Street Art Festival takes place in several Maputo neighbourhoods, including Unidade 7, Polana Caniço, Maxaquene, Mafalala, Chamanculo and Bairro Central, under the motto “(Re)Creating Narratives”.
The Festival is finenced by the Embassy of Spain in Mozambique and Eswatini, with the support of Tintas Cin Mozambique.
